2 jailed for N3.9m employment scam in Gombe
Justice J. Awak of the Gombe State High Court, Gombe has convicted and sentenced the duo of Mohammed Sani Dabo and Abdullahi Sarki Adamu to one year imprisonment each.
A statement by Wilson Uwajaren Head, Media & Publicity said Dabo and Adamu were convicted on two separate counts of criminal misappropriation of the sums of N2,500,000.00 (Two Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira) and N1,440,000.00 (One Million, Four Hundred and Forty Thousand Naira) respectively.
The first convict, Dabo sometime in June 2019 collected the total sum of N2,500.00 from one Abubakar Bala Ibrahim with the promise of securing a senior cadre job for him at National Space Research and Development Agency of Nigeria.
He was said to have demanded the said sum on the pretext that it would be used to facilitate the promised non-existent job.
Similarly, the second convict, Adamu (alias Audu Biri) also in November 2018, collected the sum of N1, 140,000.00 from his victim, Anika Saudi, whom he promised a job at either the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps or Nigerian Correctional Service.
Both convicts pleaded guilty to the charges and were convicted.
In her separate judgements, Justice Awak sentenced both men to one year imprisonment each with option of fine of N50, 000.00 to the first convict (Dabo) and N20, 000.00 to the second convict (Adamu).
She ordered the first and second convict to pay the sums of N1, 500,000.00 and N1, 140,000.00 respectively, to their victims as restitution.
