A man, whose identity could not be immediately ascertained, on Saturday lost his life when his motorcycle hit a car along Osogbo/Ilobu road, while the passenger he carried was also left injured.
The accident which occurred around Service Area, Osogbo, Osun state, caused tension, as residents who rushed to the scene, deflated tyres of the vehicle involved and apprehended the driver.
While the injured passenger was rushed out of the scene to an undisclosed hospital, the remains of the deceased motorcyclist, was still at the scene when our correspondent left the area.
Speaking on the accident, a resident, simply identified as Florence, said the motorcyclist carrying a passenger was coming from Ilobu end of the road, while the vehicle involved was heading towards Ilobu from Osogbo.
“We just heard loud noise and rushed to the scene. The motorcycle hit the vehicle and the motorcyclist died instantly on the spot. The man sitting behind him was rushed to a hospital. Police operatives later came and went away with the driver of the car, and the vehicle involved,” Florence said.
When contacted, Osun Police Command Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, said a life was lost to the accident.
Opalola further explained that the accident which involved a Toyota Camry occurred when a motorcyclist that wanted to overtake another motorcycle, lost control and in the process, hit a vehicle coming from the opposite direction.
“The rider died on the spot while his passenger sustained injury. The corpse and motorcycle were taken by the family of the deceased, while the vehicle involved had been taken to the state traffic office for safe keeping,” Opalola concluded.
