Gunmen attack Imo police station, kill inspector


Unknown gunmen have again attacked a police station in Orlu, Imo State, killing a police inspector.

It was learnt that the incident occurred on Thursday night when the armed men invaded the station, gunned down an officer, and set the facility ablaze.

Confirming the attack in a statement on Friday, The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Mike Abattam, said three of the assailants were killed.

According to him, the armed men threw explosives and petrol bombs on top of the roof of Orlu Police station, damaging the roof and causing a fire in the station.

The statement reads in part, “Three of them were neutralized and their guns, one pump action gun, and two locally-made double barrel pistols were recovered during the operation while others escaped into the bush with bullet injuries.

“Unfortunately, a police inspector lost his life in the attack.”
