The Nigerian government has been called upon to deploy resources to retrieve, secure and return the body of late Emir of Gobir Alhaji Isa Bawa who was gruesomely murdered my bandits in Sokoto State for befitting burial.
The late Emir who was also a stakeholder in the Sokoto Sultanate was kidnapped by bandits in July, and killed by his abductors in August after collecting Ransome.
Gobir Development Association, GDA, made the appeal at a media briefing in Kano earnestly appealing to the Federal and Sokoto State governments to intensify efforts in getting the corps of the late revered Emir for a befitting burial by his subjects.
Professor Iliyasu Yusuf Gobir while reading a communique acknowledged the feat of the federal government in the recent military operations that led to the killing of one of the bandit’s kingpins Halilu Sububu.
He called on both Federal and Sokoto State governments to increase military operations in order to end activities of banditry in Sokoto State.
Professor Yusuf Gobir also, drew the attention of the governments on the plights of Internally displaced persons ,IDP’s affected by the activities of banditry in Sokoto State, stressing the need to address them.
He said, ” the people of Gobir Kingdom condemned and frowns at the Sultanate Council of Sokoto’s non-commiseration with them over the late Royal father’s abduction and subsequent gruesome murder by bandits.”
“We appreciates the commiseration by the federal government and states governments, Arewa consultative forum, other guysovernmental and non governmental organizations.”
He alleged that, “the efforts of Sokoto State governments to secure the release of His Royal Highness after being abducted on his way back home from an official engagement in Sokoto was enough.”
Professor Yusuf Gobir appreciates the maturity of the people of Gobir Kingdom throughout the trying moment of the abduction and subsequent killing of the Emir, calling for more patience and restrain.
“We hope that, the federal and state governments will do the needful to ensure that, the spate of senseless and wanton killings and abductions are brought to decisive end.
