The Federal Government has cautioned Nigerian youths against irregular migration, stressing that it poses grave dangers to lives and national development. Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, issued the warning during a sensitisation campaign in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Olawande, represented by Mrs Grace Lelea, Director of Migration and Climate Change, noted that many young people are lured abroad by false promises but end up victims of human trafficking, organ harvesting, slavery, or die on perilous routes such as the Mediterranean Sea. He described the trend as a troubling phenomenon fuelled by unemployment, insecurity, and economic hardship.
The minister assured that the government, working with MDAs and development partners, has rolled out empowerment programmes to equip youths with skills and resources. He emphasised that youth development is a shared responsibility and urged collective action to nurture the aspirations of Nigeria’s young population.
