A Non-governmental Organisation, Concerned Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Residents and 65 Civil Society Organisations have raised alarm over alleged corruption in FCT’s land administration and an attempt to subvert the Abuja Geographic Information Systems, AGIS,.
The group on Friday called on National Assembly to immediately intervene to prevent the imminent collapse of AGIS by setting up a probe panel to look into the revocation of hundreds of landed properties by the Minister of Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike.
They said that the rightful owners of the properties have remained in pain since last when their lands were forcefully revoked without compensation or reallocation of another land.
Spokesperson of the group, Alhaji Hussani Abubakar Agaire told journalists at a press conference in Abuja that if what is happening in AGIS is not readdressed “it is most likely that FCT authorities will successfully take us back to where we were 20 years ago,” when the control of land administration was solely on individual hand “fraught with high -level corruption, mismanagement and waste of resources.”
The group said they are raising the alarm as ” Wike is bringing down the roof of AGIS in order to perfect his individual control and dominance over land in the FCT,” they alleged.
According to them, “he is mercilessly crushing every internal resistance from those who toiled to put the systems within the FCDA,” including the recent removal of the director, Urban and Regional Planning.
They further alleged that the minister is replacing people in strategic offices with his own people who would obviously end up doing his bidding,” probably “to convert Abuja into personal estate.”
The group also expressed concern over
what they called FCT wasting of fund in rehabilitating perfect good road network in Maitama, Asokoro and Wuse Districts of the territory to the detriment of other Districts that have no tired roads, and whose residence trekked long distance to their house because the roads are not motorable.
The group also complained about poor state of FCT hospitals and the recent mass resignation of medical doctors, the unsettled allowance and salaries of primary school teachers in the territory.
About 50 medical doctors who could not put up with the working condition in the FCTA resigned their appointments recently , the group said, adding that these issues should occupy the attention of the minister .
