The Court of Appeal held it’s first legal year ceremony on Monday since its was establishment in 1976, the President of Court of Appeal Justice Monica Bolna’an Dongban-Mensem said.
The appellate court came into existence in 1976 by the Court of Appeal Act (no. 43 of 1976) and has not mark the commencement of the legal year with any elaborate ceremony like the Federal High Court and Supreme Court.
Money ceremony marked the commencement of 2021/2022 legal year and was the first of its kind.
The ceremony was attended by all the Justices of Court of Appeal, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN) the Minister of Federal Capital Territory Alhaji Mohammed Musa Bello ,the Minister of Works and House Babatunde Faahola, SAN, and several Senior Advocates of Nigeria who were led by Chief Adegboyinga Awomolo, SAN.
The ceremony featured the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Bolna’an Dongban-Mensem inspection of parade mounted by the detachment of Nigeria Police.
It also featured goodwill speeches that were delivered by Attorney General of Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, SAN, Chief Adegboyinga Awomolo, SAN, who spoke on behalf of Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria and Yakubu Maikyau,SAN , who delivered the address of the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Mr. Akpata.
The President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Bolna’an Dongban-Mensem presented the key note address. He appealed to the federal authorities to improve the salary of judges which was last reviewed ten years ago.
