Zulum Inaugurates three Committees on Resettlement of Bama IDPs, Farmers/Herders Conflict, Street Lights Maintenance

Governor  Babagama Umara Zulum  of Borno state has  inaugurated three important committees in reconstruction and resettlement of IDPs from Bama LGA from the state capital Maiduguri and Cameroon Republic, farmers and Herders clashes as well as street lights installation and  maintenance yesterday at the Council Chamber of the Government House Maiduguri.

The  Committee on Reconstruction and Resettlement of Bama Local Government Area Phase ll  internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) which is to be chaired by the Hon. Commissioner  of Ministry of Education,  Science, Technology and Innovation,  Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe.

Its terms of reference include  to

The Committee on Farmers and Herders Conflict is to be chaired by Hon. Tijjani Goni Modu, the Senior Special Adviser on Animal and Fisheries with the term reference to investigate the root cause of conflict  between farmers and herders in the state,.

The governor also stressed the importance of the committee, which is to investigate the root cause of conflict between herders and farmers while some of the terms of reference of  the committee include to investigate and identify the remote causes of the incessant conflict between farmers and herders in the  state.

And to also identify areas that are affected as well as prone to conflict between farmers and herders in the state. to engage all stakeholders and sensitize them on the need for peaceful co-existence through  mediation and reconciliation of their  grievances and report to the state government issues, problems and recommendations for Peace.

The  Committee on Installation and   Maintenance of  Street Lights in the State  is  to be chaired by the Hon. Commissioner  of  Ministry of Budget and Planning , Engr. Dr. Babagana Mustapha Malumbe.

Its terms of reference include  to ensure  proper and regular installation, function  and maintenance of Street lights in the state  capital  Maiduguri and other LGAs by supervision and coordination of the facilities  aming others.

According to him, the  committee  is to ensure the  installation and maintenance of street lights across  the state .

In his inauguration speech,  Zulum said  that the inauguration of the Bama reconstruction committee was prompted by the relative peace in the area, which prompted the resettlement of IDPs,  adding  that, Bama was chosen because of the repatriation of  refugees in the Republic of Cameroon and other places needed to be resettled.

He however  called on all the committee members to work assiduously in executing their assignments.

On behalf of the Chairmen and the Committee members, Hon. Commissioner of  Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation,  Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe thanked the governor for finding them worthy to serve in the committees and to carry out  the assignments while  assuring that they will  deliver their assignments diligently and effectively to meet the  desired goals of the state government.
