An advocacy group, Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), says it is partnering National Cycling Commissaries Association of Nigeria (NACCAN) on modalities for hosting First Regional Cycling Fiesta in Enugu.
The National Coordinator of POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu, said this on Friday after an interface with ex-officio member of NACCAN, Timothy Ajembe, at the POCACOV Resource Centre, Enugu.
Amaraizu said that the fiesta, tagged: “Let’s Cycle to Glory”, would cut across cyclists from all the six geopolitical zones of the country.
“It is anchored on youth value reorientation, self discovery, community peace-building and strategic leadership direction.
“Apart from the health benefits of cycling, the sporting event has a penetrable ability which will offer a wider space for the deployment of POCACOV message of value reorientation and community peace-building.
“It will also offer platform for self-discovery, as hundreds of participants will be mobilised for the fiesta,” he said.
The national coordinator said that the fiesta would be used to drum POCACOV’s campaign against cultism, substance and drug abuse, violent behaviours and other vices among youths.
On his part, Ajembe thanked POCACOV for the partnership and support to deepen the development of cycling as a sport among the youth and in the country at large.
“It is good that NACCAN is involved in ridding the society of cultism and vices, thus ensuring a safe, peaceful and secured community through cycling,” he said.
