A young boy named after former President Muhammadu Buhari has been awarded a full scholarship covering his education from primary school to university, after captivating the audience at the launch of a book written by Garba Shehu, former media aide to the ex-president.
According to a statement by Shehu on Sunday, the scholarship was offered by Lawal Garba, Chairman and CEO of Trobell Nigeria. It is valid for any school chosen by the boy’s family and includes full funding for his remaining primary education, six years of secondary school, and future university education upon passing his WAEC exams.
The remarkable moment occurred on Thursday 9 July, 2025 in Abuja during the public presentation of Shehu’s book, According to the President: Lessons from a Presidential Spokesman’s Experience. Dressed in white agbada and a red cap, the young Buhari gave an emotional recital titled “Buhari in Us.” His performance, which praised the former president’s virtues such as honesty, courage, and simplicity, won the hearts of dignitaries, diplomats, and attendees.
Garba Shehu described the boy’s delivery and resemblance to the former president as deeply moving. He commended Alhaji Lawal Garba’s gesture as more than financial support—it was, he said, an investment in a future leader. Shehu called on other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate this noble example by supporting young talents across the nation.
