Yobe North Senatorial Candidate: Sherif floors Senate President Lawan,APC at A’Court

Again, Bashir Sheriff floored All Progressives Congress, APC, and it’s preferred candidate for Yobe North Senatorial District the Senate President Ahmed Lawan at Court of Appeal Abuja.

The Court of Appeal in a unanimous judgement affirmed Bashir Sheriff as the authentic candidate of the All Progressives Congress for Yobe North Senatorial District in 2023 election.

The three-man panel lead by Justice Monica Dagban-Mesah while delivering judgement upheld the judgment of the Damaturu Federal High Court which sacked the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan.

It ordered the APC to forward the name of Sheriff Machina to the Independent National Electoral Commission as the authentic winner of the primary, which was held on May 28, 2022.

The court held that the primary election that was conducted by the APC on June 9 was invalid, as it was not monitored by INEC, which is a gross violation of the electoral Act.

The appellate court held that the APC made a case for it’s self and it’s preferred candidate, Ahmed Lawan, but failed to make lawan a co-appellant instead of being the 2nd respondent in the suit.

Which means that the APC and Lawan are working at cross purposes in the suit while trying to achieve a goal.

The court therefore held that the appeal is unmeritoroius as it failed in its entirety.

The court ordered that the APC to pay 1 million naira as cost to the 1st respondent, Bashir Sherif.
