Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike said that the supporters of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, do not understand politics. He made this statement during an interview on Channels TV on Thursday, a day after the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal upheld President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 2023 presidential election.
Wike said that “he knew Obi would not win the election, and that the young people who supported him did not understand the reality of Nigerian politics. He said that ethnicity and religion are factors in Nigerian politics and that competence is not the only thing that matters.
Wike’s statement has been met with mixed reactions. Some people agree with him, while others believe that he is underestimating the power of the youth vote.”
It remains to be seen whether Obi’s supporters will be able to make a significant impact on Nigerian politics in the future.
