Wike Promises Pay Raise for Music Band After Hilarious ‘Chinese’ Rendition at Road Commissioning

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike added a dose of humor to a formal ceremony on Thursday as he promised a pay raise for his official music band following a comical performance that had the crowd in stitches.

The occasion was the commissioning of the newly completed collector road connecting Mabushi and the Judges’ Quarters in Katampe, built by a Chinese firm.

The highlight? The band’s lead singer delivered an animated and humorous song, mimicking Chinese-sounding lyrics in a playful nod to the origin of the contractors. The moment instantly became a crowd favorite, with the audience bursting into laughter.

Wike, clearly amused and impressed, responded with a light-hearted but decisive promise:

“Now that my band can sing in Chinese language, I’ll now increase their fees.”

The band immediately responded with a spirited chant of:

“Agreement is agreement… Wike! Wike! Chi hu chan!”

The scene blended local flair, humor, and appreciation for creativity, adding a touch of cultural spontaneity to the infrastructure event.
