Why I rejected Certificate Of Return for Kano Central Senatorial seat- Shekarau

Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial district, Ibrahim Shekarau, has insisted that he will not accept the Certificate of Return for New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Senatorial seat bearing his name.

The former governor was reacting to his declaration as winner of Kano Central Senatorial district on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party by the Independent National Electoral Commission in the February 25 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The former governor of Kano State, who didn’t show up to receive the Certificate of Return issued to Senators-elect at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, on Tuesday, further clarified that he had since left the NNPP.

His media aide, Sule Y. Sule made the clarifications to journalists on Wednesday that his principal wouldn’t collect the Certificate of Return.

“We have already made our position clear on the issue. Senator Shekarau is not interested and will not collect the certificate of return as a matter of principles and personal conviction,” Sule said.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared the former governor winner of the Senatorial election on the platform of the NNPP, a party he dumped before the poll for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
