The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kalu has told Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja the reasons why he fled the country.
Nnamdi Kalu who was “intercepted on Sunday , June 27 2021 by security operatives working in collaboration with intelligence” in an undisclosed country was brought to the Court on Tuesday by the Department of State Security.
Kalu said that he left the Country when his life came under severe attacks and his house unlawfully invaded by soldiers who killed some of his relatives.
He stated this in Court when he was allowed to speak by Justice Nyako. The defendant who was not represented by counsel in Court on Tuesday had raised up his hand when the prosecution lawyer Shuaibu Labaran informed the Court that he Kalu jumped bail and fled the Country.
In her ruling Justice Binta Nyako ordered the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kalu to be remanded in Correctional Centre ,Kuje.
The order was sequel to an application filed yesterday by government lawyer Shuaibu Labaran .
Justice Nyako ruled that the defendant should be remanded in the Correctional Centre till July 26 when Kalu’s trial will continue from the point his bail was revoked on May 28, 2019
