We’re Not Saboteurs, Our Goal Is to Support Governor — Benue Speaker

The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hyacinth Dajoh, has clarified that lawmakers are not working against Governor Hyacinth Alia, but are committed to representing the interests of the people. Speaking in Makurdi on Monday, August 11, 2025, at the inauguration of the Benue Chapter of the Association of Emcees (ABE) executive, Dajoh stressed that their decisions are aimed at helping the governor succeed and leave lasting legacies.

The clarification comes after legislators resolved to suspend engagement with the executive arm, citing the refusal to obey Assembly resolutions and their decision to halt the screening of commissioner nominees. Represented by Douglas Akya, member representing Makurdi South, the Speaker insisted their actions are rooted in responsible representation, not confrontation.

Other speakers at the event, including Minority Chief Whip Cephas Dyako and the Speaker’s wife, Cynthia Dajoh, commended ABE for its unity and professionalism. The new ABE leadership, led by Terver Adom, praised Governor Alia for the development strides recorded in the past two years.
