The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) have released the long-awaited results of students in Zamfara State, which were withheld for five years due to accumulated debts. The development comes after Governor Dauda Lawal approved the full settlement of the outstanding examination fees owed to the two bodies by previous administrations.
The released results affect thousands of students who sat for the exams between 2019 and 2023 but were unable to access their certificates or progress academically. Many of the affected students had been left in limbo, unable to pursue higher education or employment opportunities due to the unavailability of their results.
Governor Lawal, while addressing the issue, emphasized his administration’s commitment to education and pledged to prevent such occurrences in the future. He stated that the payment aligns with his broader agenda to restore confidence in the state’s educational sector and to prioritize the welfare of Zamfara’s students.
