The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has revoked the licences of 574 secondary schools across Nigeria, barring them from participating in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) due to confirmed cases of examination malpractice.
Dr. Amos Dangut, Head of WAEC’s National Office, announced this decision during a press briefing at the Council’s headquarters in Yaba, Lagos. He emphasized that these schools will no longer be recognized as examination centres for any WAEC-conducted exams.
WAEC has forwarded the list of the delisted schools to the Federal Ministry of Education and other relevant authorities to ensure enforcement and prevent any attempts at unauthorized participation.
Despite the ban, preparations for the 2025 WASSCE are underway, with nearly 2 million candidates registered from over 23,000 schools.
WAEC reiterated its commitment to upholding the integrity of its examinations and warned that institutions involved in systemic malpractice will face strict penalties.
