The sack of former Registrar General of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) Garba Abubakar last week Monday came as a great relieve to staff and customers of the commission who see him as a “vicious tyrant.”
Signs of that relieve were demonstrated
by the Staff of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) who immediately hired brass band and celebrated the exit of the man from the Commission with singing and dancing. Their celebration in video have since gone viral.
The workers, who were seen dancing in the viral video, expressed their gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for appointing a new Registrar-general, Hussaini Sani, for the Commission.
Staff of the commission reaffirmed their displeasure with their immediate former boss in a unique manner by placing a banner at the entrance of the CAC headquarters on Monday detailing the alleged offences of the sacked Registrar-General.
According to banner, Abubakar alleged offences in office includes abuse of the exalted of Registrar General of CAC, backwardness, lies , impunity, divide and rule style of leadership he exhibited in the last four years and mischief.
The workers also allegedly accused Abubakar of enthroning high level of corruption, sadism, nepotism , vindictiveness, zero staff welfare, financial misappropriation and physical abuse.
In 2017, CAC staff under the auspices of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPTRE) protested over poor welfare.
Garba Abubakar was appointed Registrar General of CAC by Buhari Administration in 2020 . The staff said that instead of addressing the concern raised by the workers he worsted their plights.
They vowed that details of their accusations against the former Registrar General which are crime in nature such as embezzlement and financial misappropriation would be contained in their petition to the Independent Corrupt practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
On their part, CAC customers mostly lawyers who handled clients business registration have been at war with Abubakar who upon assumption of office in 2020 dismantled all the works of his predecessors in office aimed at easing business registration and regularization in Nigeria.
Besides , he heavily monetized the registration and regularization of business such that a search at the CAC which used to cost 500 Naira, now cost 5000 to 50000 Naira, depending on the category of search being conducted.
The cost of Registration and regularization of businesses also gone up to the roof by more than 200% since the appointment of Alhaji Abubakar.
They were equally bitter that notwithstanding the unprecedented and prohibitive rise in the cost of services at the commission, the commission have treated customers with disdain and contempt. Services paid for at the commission are not rendered for months leaving customers stranded.
Lawyers have suffered the wrath of their clients because of the incompetence of former Registrar General and many of them were rendered jobless after the former Registrar vindictively withdrew their firms accreditation because they protested poor service being rendered .
