The United States continued to sit atop the latest edition of the FIBA women’s basketball world rankings released on Monday, while China stayed seventh on the rankings.
The 10 highest-ranked sides are the United States, Spain, Australia, Canada, France, Belgium, China, Japan, Turkey and Serbia.
Turkey moved up to ninth place through their promising start to the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2023 qualifiers, becoming the only side going upward among the top 10.
Turkey garnered enough points in their big wins against Slovenia and Poland, thus overtaking Serbia, who played just one game in the November window.
The most recent rankings include data from the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2021 and the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2021, with several African and Asian sides climbing on the ladder.
South Korea headlined the list for the biggest movers by jumping from No. 19 to No. 14 after reaching the semifinals of the Women’s Asia Cup and securing a place in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 qualifiers.
Nigeria moved up one spot into 15th place after winning the Women’s AfroBasket title, and runners-up Mali also went up one position to 40th.
