Troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces on Wednesday repelled terrorists coordinated night attack in Mallam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.
Demonstrating its unwavering resolve to defeat terrorism, the troops
neutralized over 60 terrorist fighters including some notorious commanders in the early hours attack which occurred on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at about 12:50 a.m.
A large number of terrorists suspected to be members of Boko Haram/ISWAP advancing from the Duguri general area on foot, supported by multiple armed drones, were aiming to breach the 68 Battalion main defensive area.
But, their movement was swiftly detected by vigilant troops whose responses triggered overwhelming firepower.
In a well-coordinated operation that follows, troops in synergy with supporting air components engaged and decisively dismantled the attackers.
In the ensued battle Nigerian troops neutralized over 60 terrorist fighters, including some notorious commanders.
The intense firefight forced the remaining insurgents into a disorganized retreat towards the Arege general area.
Troops have since commenced exploitation operations to pursue and eliminate the fleeing terrorists, while Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance platforms are being deployed to dominate the adversary’s withdrawal routes and prevent regrouping, military sources said.
Military sources said the Nigerian Army remains resolute and committed to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist elements. They reassured law-abiding citizens of the country of the armed forces dedication to safeguarding lives and property across the country.
