Troops loss an officer, 5 soldiers in Kango attack

…1 NPF personnel, 20 vigilantes also killed

The military on Thursday said it has beefed up security at Sector 1 Forward Operations Base (FOB),Kango in Zamfara States after it repelled attack inflicting casualties on the bandits.

It said however that troops sustained casualties in the process on the attack as one officer , five soldiers, one Nigeria Police Force personnel and 20 vigilantes that joined the troops to repel the attack were killed in action.

Director of Media Operations (DMO) Major General Edward Buba said in a statement that while the attack was successfully repelled by the troops, killing scores of the bandits, two other soldiers were still missing.

The incident occurred on Monday July 24, 2023 when bandits attacked troops of Sect 1 FOB Kango while on foot patrol.

Major General Edward Buba said the corpses of the deceased were deposited at Yerima Bakura Specialist Hospital Gusau in Zamfara State.

But specific details of the deceased are being withheld until completion of administrative procedures to notify their families.

He added that while search and rescue operation is still in progress. The FOB has been beefed up following the threats of reprisal by the bandits due to the casualties they sustained. Troops are poised for further offensive against the bandits, he said.
