President Bola Tinubu has removed the Chairman, of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Muhammad Nami, from office and replaced him with Zacchaeus Adendeji.
A statement issued by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Ajuri Ngelale, disclosed this on Thursday.
It added that the President had replaced him with Zacchaeus Adedeji, acting
capacity.
The statement said Nami was directed to take three months of his pre-retirement leave, as provided by Public
Service Rule (PSR) 120243, with immediate effect, will lead to his eventual exit from the public service in early December this year.
The statement said: “Zacchaeus Adedeji is therefore appointed as acting Executive Chairman of the Federal
Inland Revenue Service for a period of 90 days prior to his future confirmation as substantive Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service for a tenure of four years in the first instance.
“Hon. Zacch Adedeji is a first-class accounting graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University.
“He most recently served as the President’s Special Adviser on Revenue, after previously serving as the Oyo State
Commissioner of Finance and as the Executive Secretary / CEO of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC).
The new appointment takes effect immediately under the President’s directions.”
Nami, a tax consultant, was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari
in December 2019 replacing Babatunde Fowler, a Tinubu loyalist, who was appointed in 2015.
He hails from Nami village, Agaie Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger state while Adedeji, who is below 50, comes
from Iwo-Ate community, Ogo-Oluwa LGA, Oyo State.
