Teenager Amara Nwuneli Wins Earth Prize for Eco-Friendly Playground

Seventeen-year-old Amara Nwuneli from Nigeria won the 2025 Earth Prize and a $12,500 award for transforming a trash-dumping ground into a playground using recycled tires and other materials.

Motivated by her experiences during a 2020 flood, Nwuneli raised awareness about climate issues through her NGO, Preserve Our Roots.

She plans to build three additional community parks in Nigeria, emphasizing multi-functional spaces with gardens, greenhouses, and waste collection centers.
