Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara made his first public appearance on Sunday, May 4, 2025, following a two-week vacation in the United Kingdom.
He attended a Thanksgiving Service organized by the Boys Brigade Metropolitan Battalion Council Nigeria at St. Cyprian’s Church, Anglican Communion, in Port Harcourt.
The service, presided over by Diocesan Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Oko-Jaja, included special prayers for Governor Fubara, his family, and the peace of Rivers State .
Governor Fubara returned to Port Harcourt on Saturday evening, May 3, 2025, after his UK trip. His return coincides with ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, particularly with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Wike has accused Fubara of orchestrating disruptions at an empowerment program for women organized by the Office of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in Port Harcourt. These developments have cast doubt on reconciliation efforts between the two political figures .
In March 2025, President Bola Tinubu suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly, citing escalating political crises and attacks on oil infrastructure. While there were hopes for Fubara’s reinstatement during the upcoming Democracy Day address on May 29, recent events suggest that such expectations may be premature.
