Sunday Abuja Mayhem! Shi’ite Members Butcher 2 Policemen In Wuse, leaving 3 unconscious

Two Policemen have been confirmed dead following early Sunday morning attack by the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, popularly known as the ‘Shi’ite’ group in Abuja.

Police source said the proscribed Shi’ite organisation attacked the police checkpoint unprovoked, wielding machetes, improvised explosive devices (locally made bombs in bottles with kerosene), and knives.

The Shi’ite group attacked some personnel of the Nigeria Police Force attached to FCT Command at Wuse Junction by traffic light.

“Two police personnel were killed, three left unconscious in the hospital, and three (3) Police patrol vehicles set ablaze,” the spokesperson of FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, a superintendent of police, said in a statement.

“FCT police command wishes to confirm an unprovoked attack by the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, popularly known as the ‘Shi’ite’ group, on some personnel of the Nigeria Police Force attached to FCT command at Wuse Junction by traffic light, where two (2) police personnel were killed, three left unconscious in the hospital, and three (3) Police patrol vehicles set ablaze, SP Josephine said in the statement.
“The proscribed organisation attacked the police checkpoint unprovoked, wielding machetes, improvised explosive devices (locally made bombs in bottles with kerosene), and knives”.

According to Josephine, several arrests have been effected.The Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, while condemning the unprovoked attack on Police officers, promises to bring those involved to book.

When our correspondent got to Wuse market junction at about 2.30pm on Sunday, peace has be restored by a detachment of soldiers who quelled the uprising and mounted checkpoint .

SP Josephine also confirmed that the situation has been brought under control and normalcy restored . She said further development will be communicated to the public in due course.
