Dr. Agbor Neji Ebuta, a Family Physician at the State House Medical Centre in Abuja, has been appointed to the Advisory Board of Healthcare Communication Initiative (HCI), the organization driving the Patient–Doctor Forum Nigeria initiative. The platform is dedicated to strengthening communication and trust between patients and healthcare providers.
Healthcare Communication Initiative was founded by Family Physician and Author, Dr.Temitope Oyetunji, to address persistent communication gaps that often affect patient experience, treatment adherence, and healthcare outcomes across Nigeria’s health system. Through the Patient–Doctor Forum Nigeria, the organization works to empower patients with clearer health information while equipping doctors with communication and empathy skills that improve healthcare interactions.
Announcing the appointment, Dr. Oyetunji described Dr. Ebuta as a valuable addition to the organization’s advisory leadership.
“Dr. Ebuta’s experience in clinical practice and health systems leadership will provide important guidance as we work to strengthen dialogue between patients and healthcare providers,” she said.
Dr. Ebuta brings more than two decades of clinical and public service experience to the role. He is also the Co-Founder of Medical Initiative for Africa, a non-governmental organisation focused on expanding healthcare access in underserved communities across the continent.
Earlier in his career, he served as a Clinical Advisor to PFD Nigeria before joining the State House Medical Centre in 2010.
Speaking on his appointment, Dr. Ebuta emphasized the importance of communication in healthcare delivery.
“Effective healthcare begins with trust, communication, and a system that places the patient’s voice at the centre of care,” he said.
The organization is currently preparing for the inaugural National Patient–Doctor Forum, scheduled to hold in Abuja later this year under the theme “Humanizing Healthcare in Nigeria: Empowering Patients, Caregivers, and Providers.”
