The Spanish national team has been rocked by a medical row involving teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, who has withdrawn from the squad due to fitness concerns.
According to an official statement from the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), the 17-year-old underwent an invasive radiofrequency treatment for a pubic injury on Monday morning without informing the national team’s medical staff.
“The Medical Services of the Spanish Federation wish to express their surprise and displeasure after learning at 13:47 on Monday, November 10, the day the official national team training camp began, that Lamine Yamal had undergone an invasive radiofrequency procedure for the treatment of his pubic discomfort that same morning,” the statement read.
“The procedure was carried out without prior communication to the medical staff of the National Team, with knowledge of the details only through a report received at 22:40 last night, which indicates the medical recommendation of rest for 7-10 days.”
The decision means Yamal will miss Spain’s upcoming Euro 2026 qualifiers against Turkey and Georgia.
The incident has stirred tension between club and country, as the RFEF expressed frustration over the lack of communication, while Yamal’s camp insists the procedure was necessary to prevent further complications.
