Simon Ekpa secessionist activist jailed 6 years in Finland for terrorism crimes

The Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland on Monday September 1, 2025 sentenced Simon Ekpa to six years imprisonment for terrorism offences.

Simon Ekpa, 40 years a Finnish citizen of Nigerian origin has been on trial, before the court following his arrest at his home in Finland in 2023 “attempted to promote the independence of the so-called Biafra region in south-eastern Nigeria by illegal means”, according to court documents.

The court in a unanimous verdict by a panel of three judges.also found that Ekpa illegally equipped armed groups with weapons and explosives through his network of contacts.
