Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II who was dethroned as Emir of Kano by the former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has been reinstated as the Emir of Kano.
His reinstatement followed the Kano State House of Assembly repealed of the Kano State Emirs (Appointment and Deposition) Law on Thursday.
The repealed controversial traditional council law was enacted in 2019 under the administration of governor Ganduje .
The Kano House of Assembly in the amended bill dethroned Emir Ado Bayero and dismantled four other Emirates created out from the Kano original Emirate council by former Governor Ganduje who is now the national chairman of Progressive Congress ,APC.
Confirming the development, the Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon Lawan Hussaini Chediyar Yan Gurasa, who sponsored the Amendment Bill, told journalists shortly after Thursday’s plenary that the passed Bill has been sent to the Governor for assent.
The House Leader said that with the passage of the Bill, it presupposes that there is no longer an active Emir in Kano in the five Emirates namely; Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano and Karaye.
He said that the law now provides that the State Governor shall call on the traditional kingmakers to choose a new emir, adding that all the district heads elevated or appointed under the repealed law are to immediately revert to their former positions.
The reinstated Emir Sanusi is expected to arrive Kano on Friday to assume his traditional stool .
Following the passage of the Bill which is awaiting the Governor’s assent, Sanusi, is expected to return to Kano on Friday to assume his traditional stool if
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf immediately sign it into an Act.
It was gathered that the present administration of Governor Yusuf saw the restructuring of the Kano Emirate as carried out by former Governor Ganduje, purely as political manoeuvre and vendetta aimed at diminishing the influence of the reinstated Emir Sanusi II, who was seen as a vocal critic of Ganduje’s administration.
It was gathered that the present administration felt concerned that the creation of the new emirates seriously fragmented the authority of the old Kano Emirate Council, thereby diluting its influence and power.
Meanwhile , Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi
who was at a public function in Rivers State hurriedly left the function following the news of his reinstatement.
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, congratulated and rejoiced with His Royal Highness, Muhammad Sanusi II on his reinstatement as the Emir of Kano.
Conveying the governor’s congratulatory message in a statement on Thursday, Fubara’s spokesman, Nelson Chukwudi, said his principal received the report of the reinstatement of the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), with great excitement.
According to Fubara, it came at a time when Khalifa Sanusi II was in the state to add impetus to his administration’s initiative to reshape the economic trajectory of the State.
“I wish the 14th Emir of Kano a successful and fruitful reign that will bring progress and prosperity to the people of the State,” the governor said.
He also urged the “spiritual leader of the Tijanniyah Sufi order of Nigeria, Emir Muhammad Sanusi II, to lead the over 50 million adherents of the Sufi order in Nigeria with love, wisdom and courage while bringing lasting peace, justice, equity and fairness to all in the city of Kano.”
The Kano State House of Assembly has repealed the Kano State Emirs (Appointment and Deposition) Law but Governor Abba Yusuf is yet to assign to it.

GOV FUBARA CONGRATULATES MUHAMMAD SANUSI II ON REINSTATEMENT AS 14TH KANO EMIR
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has congratulated His Royal Highness, Muhammad Sanusi II on his reinstatement as the 14th Emir of Kano.
Governor Fubara said that he received the news of the reinstatement of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), with great excitement, particularly coming at a time Khalifa Sanusi II was in the State to add impetus to his administration’s initiative to reshape the economic trajectory of the State.
He also urged the spiritual leader of the Tijanniyah Sufi order of Nigeria, Emir Muhammad Sanusi II, to lead the over 50 million adherents of the Sufi order in Nigeria with love, wisdom and courage while bringing lasting peace, justice, equity and fairness to all in the city of Kano.
