Samklef accuses Davido of fuelling toxicity in Nigerian music industry

Popular Nigerian record producer Samklef has accused singer Davido of introducing toxicity and unhealthy rivalry into the Nigerian music scene. He made the allegation while reacting to a post by producer-turned-singer Pheelz, who lamented the growing culture of comparisons and rivalry in the industry.

According to Samklef, there was mutual respect and harmony in the industry during the early rise of Wizkid and Olamide, with music driven more by creativity than competition. He claimed that the atmosphere changed significantly after Davido joined the mainstream, alleging that hostility and unhealthy practices became more common.

Samklef further alleged that the industry began witnessing what he described as a “cultist mindset,” threats, fake streams and dirty tactics, stressing that music was never meant to be a battleground. His comments have since sparked debate among fans and industry stakeholders over rivalry, comparisons and the state of Nigerian music culture.
