Primary and secondary schools resume across several states in the country today with some parents expected to pay fees for the new term.
Many schools resumed the second term after the Christmas and New Year holidays.
“My children are resuming tomorrow,” Pastor Samuel who is a Lagos resident told The PUNCH on Sunday.
“Everyone is planning to pay second-term fees. I have paid my children’s fees,” Samuel said, adding “There are signs that the transport fare may go up from tomorrow,” citing a rush for vehicles.
Our correspondent on Sunday afternoon saw many children with luggage as they boarded vehicles at different bus stops in Lagos, with some saying they were resuming school in Ogun, Oyo and others.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Kano State Government approved Monday, January 8, 2024, for the resumption of academic activities in primary and post-primary schools across the state for the second term of the session.
The director, Public Enlightenment in the Ministry of Education, Kano, Balarabe Abdullahi, stated this in a statement on Sunday.
Abdullahi said boarding schools were, however, expected to resume on Sunday, January 7 across the state.
Appreciating the cooperation and support given to the ministry, Abdullahi said the government had renovated Girls Child’s Education School buses to facilitate the smooth transportation of pupils to their respective schools.
“Kano State Government is taking all measures to bring positive changes towards improving both the primary and secondary education system of the state,” he said.
The ministry wished both teachers, students and pupils a successful second term academic session and emphasised that it would continue with intensive routine monitoring to ensure staff punctuality and efficiency.
