The Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Thursday arraigned Ms Chinyere Amuchiena Igwegbe before the High Court of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja for giving false information.
Ms Igwegbe was docked before Justice Halilu Yusuf on four count charge for allegedly giving false information .Ms Igwegbe who lives at Apo District of Abuja was said to have in a petition she wrote raised false allegations of conspiracy, intimidation, attempted kidnapping and threat to her life against former Imo State governor Chief Ikedi Ohakim and one Chinedu Okpareke.
Police said she falsely informed them that she paid Ohakim a sum of N500M for the purchase of a land in Lagos during the 2019 general elections which was not delivered to her.
They also told the court that the accused falsely informed them that Ohakim and Okpareke threatened to release a nude photograph of her to the general public through social media.
Mrs Igwegbe denied the charges when it was read in court to her.
But some month ago , acting on her complaints the police had arrested Ohakim and Okpareke and filed a charge against them at Federal High Court Abuja.
The police later applied to the court to withdraw the charge and submitted the case file to the office of the Attorney General of Federation.
While the federal high court is yet to determine whether the police has terminate Ohakim and Okpareke trial following the intervention of AGF who had indicated interest to take over the matter, the police filed charge against Ms. Igwegbe at the FCT High Court for false information.
Justice Halilu Yusuf of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting in Mataima Abuja on Thursday admitted Mrs Chinyere Amuchiena Igwegbe to bail with two sureties.
The two sureties the judge ordered must be reputable Nigerians resident within the jurisdiction. The sureties must write under taking to provide the accused person in court during trial.
The judge also ordered the accused person to deposit her travelling documents with the court registrar. Justice Yusuf said that the alleged offence is bailable.
The court has adjourned the matter to Oct 28 for trial.
