The Nigeria Police Force has commenced the nationwide withdrawal of all Special Protection Unit (SPU) personnel serving on VIP assignments, following a directive from President Bola Tinubu. A memo issued by ASP Neji Veronica of SPU Base 16, Lagos, ordered all affected officers to return to their base by the end of November 24, stressing strict compliance.
The directive marks a major shake-up in the country’s VIP security structure, with authorities moving to reorganize and streamline police deployments. The memo, shared publicly by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, instructed officers to attend a compulsory lecture parade, with attendance to be taken via nominal roll.
The development comes amid heightened national security concerns, with police leadership intensifying efforts to redirect manpower toward critical security operations across the country.
