Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has ruled out any plan for a coalition within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating instead that the party is considering a strategic alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections. He disclosed this while addressing PDP caucus members during a special meeting at his residence, amid growing internal tensions within the party.
Lamido explained that the decision was informed by widespread consultations with key stakeholders, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo and ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki. According to him, resolving the PDP’s crisis largely depends on the actions of four influential figures: Governors Bala Mohammed, Ahmadu Fintiri, Seyi Makinde, and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, whom he said possess the capacity to end the party’s troubles if they so desire.
He added that the planned alliance, particularly in Jigawa State, is a pragmatic move to revive the PDP’s electoral fortunes. Lamido urged party members to remain patient and united, assuring them that national-level efforts are ongoing and that a crucial meeting scheduled for December 17 could mark a turning point for the party’s future.
