Tension gripped Tor Bali and Atongo villages in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State after suspected herders set ablaze no fewer than 62 houses. The attack followed a violent altercation that began at a local pond where a Tiv woman was reportedly assaulted by herders while fetching water. The incident escalated as community members retaliated, leading to a full-blown confrontation.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants, armed with sticks and machetes, stormed the villages and began torching homes. While no deaths were recorded, a farmer sustained injuries, and dozens were displaced. The local government chairman, Aboki Dauda, met with Fulani leaders following the attack and cautioned against further aggression.
In response, the Taraba State government dispatched relief materials to affected residents and called for peaceful coexistence. Authorities emphasized the need for dialogue and understanding between the Tiv and Fulani communities to prevent future violence in the region.
