The Oyo State Government has disclosed that it is paying N60 million monthly to clear outstanding pension arrears owed to state retirees, reaffirming its commitment to pensioners’ welfare under Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Chairman of the State Pension Board, Tunji Adekunle, in a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, in Ibadan.
Adekunle revealed that as of April 2025, a total of 22,212 pensioners are on the board’s payroll. He emphasized that pensions have been consistently paid on or before the 25th of each month, in line with the timely payment of salaries for active workers.
In addition to clearing arrears, the board has continued enrolling new retirees monthly, with 142 added in January, 175 in February, 171 in March, and 143 in April 2025.
The board’s Permanent Secretary, Hammed Bello, praised the governor’s dedication, noting that regular pension payments have brought much-needed relief and restored trust among retirees. He also highlighted the board’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous reforms in pension management.
