Oyo Stakeholders Forum Backs Zaach Adedeji for 2027, Highlights Vision for Revenue Transformation

The Oyo Stakeholders Forum (OSF) has endorsed Sir Dr. Zaach Adedeji, Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), as the All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant best suited to transform Oyo State ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial elections. In a press conference, the group praised Dr. Adedeji’s achievements in tax reform and revenue generation at the federal level, emphasizing his potential to replicate that success in Oyo State.

Transforming Nigeria’s Revenue System at FIRS

During his tenure as FIRS Chairman, Dr. Adedeji spearheaded a series of innovative reforms that have significantly boosted Nigeria’s tax revenues. His introduction of a digital tax filing system streamlined compliance, reduced revenue leakages, and made tax payment processes more efficient for businesses and individuals.

Dr. Adedeji also championed public-private partnerships to increase awareness and trust in the tax system, widening the tax net and formalizing more businesses. These initiatives have set a new benchmark for transparency and efficiency in Nigeria’s tax administration, according to OSF.

A Vision for Economic Self-Reliance in Oyo State

OSF highlighted that Oyo State’s heavy reliance on federal allocations has hindered its economic growth. Dr. Adedeji’s experience in revenue generation, they argued, could enable the state to transition to a more self-reliant and sustainable financial model.

As governor, Dr. Adedeji plans to modernize Oyo State’s tax system by deploying technology and data analytics to uncover untapped revenue sources, reduce inefficiencies, and expand the tax base. His approach emphasizes fairness, ensuring that every taxable entity contributes appropriately to the state’s development.

People-Centered Revenue Strategy

Dr. Adedeji has pledged to prioritize the welfare of Oyo State residents, ensuring that every naira generated is transparently used to fund projects that directly impact lives. His vision includes investment in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and job creation.

The proposed tax system will allow residents to track government spending, fostering greater accountability and trust. This transparency, OSF noted, could encourage voluntary compliance and create a stronger partnership between the government and its citizens.

Harnessing Oyo’s Economic Potential

Oyo State’s agricultural resources, industrial hubs, and emerging sectors position it as an economic powerhouse in Nigeria. Dr. Adedeji plans to leverage these strengths by creating a business-friendly environment, offering tax incentives to attract investment in agribusiness, manufacturing, and technology.

By doing so, he aims to boost productivity, create jobs, and increase internally generated revenue (IGR), paving the way for accelerated economic growth.

Infrastructure Development as a Priority

With improved revenue, Dr. Adedeji plans to focus on critical infrastructure projects, including roads, schools, hospitals, and water systems. These initiatives are expected to enhance the quality of life for residents and make the state more attractive to investors.

Call for Support

The Oyo Stakeholders Forum urged residents to rally behind Dr. Adedeji, emphasizing his track record of results-driven leadership and his commitment to transparent governance.

“Dr. Adedeji has demonstrated the vision, experience, and determination to transform Oyo State into a model of economic growth and self-reliance,” said Elder Jelili Akande, representing OSF.

As the 2027 elections approach, OSF is calling on citizens to support what they describe as a bold and transformative vision for the state’s future.
