The Oyo State Government has undertaken a massive renovation of the Government House in Ibadan, costing ₦63.4 billion as part of activities marking the state’s 50th anniversary. The upgrade includes refurbishing the Governor’s Lodge, administrative buildings, guest chalets, and other facilities within the complex.
Governor Seyi Makinde, who commissioned the project, described the renovation as a “legacy investment” to preserve the heritage and improve the functionality of the seat of power. He emphasized that the project aligns with his administration’s modernization agenda and reflects Oyo’s growth over the past five decades.
However, the renovation has drawn mixed reactions. While some residents commend the facelift as symbolic and timely, others have criticized the cost as excessive, especially amid ongoing concerns over poor infrastructure, education funding, and healthcare delivery in various parts of the state.
