Ondo State Football Association’s Committee on Security on Thursday threatened to arrest fans of Sunshine Stars FC of Akure.
The committee said the arrest would be aimed at those violating the COVID-19 safety protocols during the club’s home matches.
Henry Akingboju, Chairman of the Committee, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that such erring fans should stay at home to prevent being sanctioned for violating the COVID-19 safety precautions.
He noted that the club had been complying with the safety protocols against the virus, adding that the fans must follow suit.
Akingboju stated that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had sent a reminder on the COVID-19 extant rules to clubs in all competitions to comply with the safety guidelines and protocols.
The NFF had stated that sanctions would be meted out to erring clubs.
“We are going to be very very strict on Sunday, and this can lead to the arrest of anybody who wants to cause problem.
“We want everyone to help Sunshine Stars and not create further problems for the team,” he said.
NAN reports that Sunshine Stars will take on Abia Warriors on Sunday in Akure.
