Okereke out till 2022 with muscle injury

Venezia forward, David Okereke, is set to be out of action for three weeks after suffering a muscle injury in his side’s 4-3 loss to Hellas Verona in the Italian Serie A on Sunday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The 24-year-old who missed the team’s 4-0 loss to Atalanta on November 30 due to a hamstring injury was rushed back into action against Verona but lasted just seven minutes before falling to the ground unchallenged.

The Nigerian was taken off for Dennis Johnsen as he could not continue the game and according to the latest reports, he is set to be sidelined for the next couple of weeks.

According to trivenetogoal.it, “David Okereke underwent a diagnostic on Tuesday after the injury he suffered against Verona.

“An injury to the flexor was found for the Venezia forward, which will lead to a stoppage of about three weeks.”

The news serves as a blow to the Serie A newcomers as Okereke has been one of their most important players this season. He is the club’s top scorer in the league with four goals along with Mattia Aramu who has also found the back of the net four times in 13 league appearances.

Okereke joined the Serie A side from Belgian giants Club Brugge in the summer after failing to impress manager Philippe Clement after two seasons at the club since joining from Spezia on a club record €8.16m in the summer of 2019.
