The Attorney General of Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami said on Friday that his office has not been informed that Abuja- Kaduna rail tracks was blown up by unknown persons on Wednesday.
Malami who was fielding questions from journalists during a briefing on panel report on Nnamdi Kanu and activities of the proscribed Indegeneous People of Biafra, said though his office has not been communicated on the incident along Abuja-Kaduna rail, he heard it from the public.
So, he can not respond to questions who carried out the attack . He said that his office may address a press conference on the issue when facts are available.
On Wednesday unknown persons suspected to be terrorists and bandits attacked the Abuja-Kaduna rail tracks and blown up the rail line.
An activist and a former Senator, Shehu Sani who first made public the attack in his Facebook post alleged that “The Abuja-Kaduna train he boarded was attacked with explosives’.
Later authority of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) on Thursday confirmed the incident and stated that the rail tracks for the Kaduna-Abuja train services were blown up by explosives planted on the tracks by yet to be identified persons.
The Corporation stated that train services along the route where the incident occurred in the evening of Wednesday in forest area of Rijiana in kaduna States have been temporarily suspended while efforts are ongoing to restore the train services along the route.
The Managing Director of the NRC, Engineer Fidet Okhiria explained that the explosives damaged the rail tracks somewhere between Dutse and Rijana.
According to Okhiria, “Yes, there was an explosive on our rail track somewhere around Rijana and Dutse last night, and this damaged the tracks.
“Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure that the train services along the Kaduna-Abuja route are fully restored,”
When asked if there were gunshots aimed at the train driver and the tank of the train, the NRC MD stated that “There was nothing like that. Only an explosive that went up on the track.
“Are you aware that we even ran a train service this morning? Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure full train services are restored along that route, he said.
