Nwabali Faces AFCON 2025 Doubt As Injury Worries Deepen

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has emerged as a major doubt for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following fresh concerns over ankle and hand injuries sustained during Nigeria’s World Cup playoff campaign. The 29-year-old has not featured for Chippa United since returning from international duty.

Chippa United head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi admitted uncertainty over Nwabali’s fitness, noting that while the goalkeeper remains optimistic, the medical situation suggests a longer recovery period may be required. His absence would be a major setback for Nigeria as preparations intensify.

Nwabali was one of Nigeria’s standout performers at AFCON 2023 in Côte d’Ivoire, where he cemented his role as first-choice goalkeeper. His potential unavailability for AFCON 2025 raises significant concerns for the Super Eagles’ defensive stability.
