The Minister of Works, David Umahi, emphasized that he is not insisting that all ongoing road construction in the nation must be changed to concrete.
In a statement on Tuesday, Umahi stated that contractors who choose to proceed with asphalt for road construction must meet specific conditions.
“Contractors who opt for asphalt must ensure that all roads built with asphalt pavement have concrete shoulders.
Alternatively, roads with surface dressing should have no shoulders,” Umahi explained.
However, Umahi reiterated that concrete road pavement is a more superior, cost-effective, and durable option compared to asphalt pavement for road construction in certain regions of the country due to the terrain.
