A Non-governmental organization ‘The Victims of Persecution’ has commended Governor Engr. David Umahi of Ebonyi State for donating the spectacular King David University of Medical Sciences UBURU , Ebonyi State to the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria.
The Victims of Persecution made the commendation in a statement signed by its rapporteur and former Attorney General of Imo State, Chukwuma -Machukwu Ume (SAN).
The organization said they watched with delight and incitement the historic event during the consecration of the new Bishop of Catholic Diocese Abakaliki when His Excellency Governor Umahi made the donation on behalf of the government and People of Ebonyi State.
“We heartily thank the Government, people and Governor of Ebonyi State for this well though out gesture.” the statement said. It added that the donation is a historic and unique as the conception, construction and equipping of the University.
“The establishment of the University shows a true leadership that is not only conversant with problems biting the citizens but also has the innovative capacity to confront the problems with enduring solutions.”
The organization further observed that the completion of the King David University of Medical Sciences has shown that leadership with vision would have taken Nigeria out of its self – inflicted wounds that makes leaders to rush abroad for every medical treatment while the citizens suffer here.
The Victims of Persecution said that the donation of the state of the Art University by the government of Ebonyi State to the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria mirrors a deep understanding of constitutional democracy and nation building Nigerians have been yearning for.
“We of the Victims of Persecution believe that our constitution see our religion as a belief for the harmonious human existence and healthy development of each and every Nigerian in Nigeria.
“Unfortunately some of our ill-fated rulers have turned religion as instrument of organized violence and parochial hegemony. Religion is about God. God does not rejoice over the shedding of the blood of His armless and peaceful children.
“Again, we commend His Excellency Gov. Engr.David Umahi for this far reaching foresight he has again shown. May are now envying the people of Ebonyi State for the rain of meaningful infrastructural provisions in their state during his tenure.
We of the Victims of Persecution sincerely congratulated the Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria for meriting the confidence of the government and people of Ebonyi State for this challenge.
“May God continue to be their strength as they weather the storm of managing the University to attend the ultimate goal of being one of the centres of medical excellence in the World,” it concluded.
