Nicholas Steven popularly known as “Nickijay” on Tuesday advised fellow musicians and younger artistes to respect the older ones so as to stay relevant and make progress.
Steven gave the advice while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
“This is necessary to portray the nation’s culture of respect for the elderly and curb indifferences amongst practitioners in the Nigerian entertainment industry,’’ he said.
The artiste noted that the younger musicians should focus more on learning from the elderly ones who had been successful over the years so as to improve on their music.
“My advice to the younger musicians is to be persistent, always believe in themselves, and focus on hard work, prayers and promotion of their music.
“Patience is another virtue they must possess, take things a step at a time, respect the older artistes and learn from them.
“The music of the older artistes should be studied critically to improve on our music,” he said.
Steven said he had been into music since childhood and was always inspired by the things in his environment as he loved to touch people’s lives by making them happy through his music.
He said he was into Afrobeat, Rhythm and Blues, and Afro-fusion genres of music as he had produced two singles so far “Display” and “Alone”.
Steven said “Display” was a love song and about beautiful women that could not be replaced.
“‘Alone’ is about my journey in the music industry and the difficulty of doing music,” he said.
Steven commended the efforts of younger musicians towards the growth of the Nigerian entertainment industry, adding that he admired their resilience.
