Millions of Nigerian football fans have rejected the apology issued by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) following the Super Eagles’ recent failures, insisting that the board led by President Ibrahim Gusau must resign immediately.
The NFF had earlier released a statement expressing “open and sincere apology” to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government, and football-loving Nigerians after the national team’s disappointing performances.
“The Nigeria Football Federation wishes to openly and sincerely apologise to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), to the Federal Government as a whole, and to millions of Nigerians, most especially our passionate, loyal football fans,” the statement read.
However, the apology has been met with widespread anger across social media platforms, with citizens calling it “too little, too late.” Many argue that the federation’s leadership has failed repeatedly in planning, player management, accountability, and long-term development.
Fans also point to the Super Eagles’ chaotic preparation for crucial qualifiers, unresolved administrative issues, and several controversies as proof that Nigerian football is suffering from systemic mismanagement.
For many supporters, the only acceptable next step is a total overhaul of the NFF leadership.
