Military issues Advisory over Heightened terrorist attacks in North -East

… Following multiple causalities at scenes of 3 separate suicide bomb attacks in Maiduguri

The Joint Task Force, Operation HADIN KAI operating in the Nigeria North -East Zone theatre has issued a fresh security Advisory to the public following an increased risk of suicide bombing in the final day of Ramadan.

A statement released on Tuesday, by Lt. Col. Uba Sani the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force, Operation HADIN KAI, said it is clear that suicide bomb explosions that rocked the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council in three different locations at about 7:05 p.m. on Monday 16, 2026 were carried out by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.

The Monday evening’s deadly suicide bombers
explosions targeted crowded locations including Monday Market, the Post Office area, and the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital that resulted multiple causalities.

“The cowardly attacks targeted crowed public areas in an attempt by the terrorists to inflict mass casualties and create panic within the metropolis.”

According to the military
intelligence reports indicate that Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province elements may intensify attacks during the closing days of the fasting period.

Military authorities also said that the three incidents underscore a continued pattern of attacks aimed at civilian populations.

The military also noted that, terrorist groups historically escalate operations during significant religious periods, particularly around the 27th and 29th days of Ramadan, when large gatherings occur at mosques, churches, markets, and transport hubs.

Therefore, residents have been urged to remain vigilant, especially in crowded public spaces such as prayer grounds, shopping areas, hospitals, and motor parks.

The statement advised worshippers attending night prayers, including Taraweeh and Tahajjud to exercise caution and comply with security screening measures.

The advisory highlights several precautionary steps, including reporting suspicious individuals or unattended items, avoiding overcrowded areas where possible, and cooperating with ongoing stop-and-search operations.

Parents and guardians were specifically advised to monitor the movement of children, particularly during evening hours and night prayers.

Community leaders, religious authorities, and transport unions have also been called upon to support security agencies by raising awareness and reporting suspicious activities.

The military noted that security forces across the region have already intensified patrols, surveillance, and protective measures around critical infrastructure and population centres to prevent further attacks.

Acknowledging the inevitable role of civilians in counter-terrorism efforts, the statement called for timely information from the public, noting that it has been crucial in thwarting previous attacks and apprehending suspects.

The military authorities reassured residents that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure a peaceful end to Ramadan and upcoming Eid celebrations, urging citizens to remain calm but alert.

Operation HADIN KAI commiserates with the families of the victims and assures the public that troops and all security agencies remain fully committed to safeguarding lives and property while relentlessly pursuing terrorist elements and responsible for these heinous acts.
