MFM battle Remo Stars in NPFL opener

MFM FC will kick off their 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League season with a South West derby clash at home to newly-promoted Remo Stars at their new home ground the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Friday (today), The PUNCH reports.

MFM, who finished 10th last season will be aiming to extend their unbeaten run against Remo Stars to five when both sides meet.

The Olukoya Boys have recorded three wins and a draw in their four meetings against the Sky Blue Stars.

The three wins recorded in favour of MFM ended 1-0 with the only stalemate ending 1-1.

Speaking ahead of the opener, MFM head coach Gbenga Ogunbote said he was keen to kick off Remo’s campaign on a bright note.

“We have prepared well for the season and we are ready,” Ogunbote told The PUNCH.

“It is important to start the season well, regardless of where we are playing, because at the end the result will help us.”

On his side’s poor form against their hosts, the former Sunshine Stars manager believes his side is capable of ending the winless run against their South West rivals.

“We are well aware of this but we will go into that game with the mindset to win,” he added.

Meanwhile, MFM confirmed the appointment of Shola Balogun, as the substantive Technical Adviser for two seasons, while Gabriel Olalekan remains the Head Coach of the squad.
