Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta has been included in the France national team for the first time in his career, as Didier Deschamps names him in the squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Iceland.
Mateta, 28, has been in impressive form this season with multiple goals for Palace.
His call-up is seen partly due to injuries among France’s usual attacking options, giving him an unexpected opportunity to debut at senior level.
